How to Renew Your CPR Certification Online
To renew CPR certification online: enroll in a current online CPR course, complete the self-paced modules (about an hour), pass the final quiz, and download your new certificate immediately; it is valid for two more years. You can renew online only if your role accepts fully-online certificates. AHA BLS and California EMSA childcare cards must be renewed with a hands-on skills check, just like they were earned.
CPR certification lasts two years, and renewal is the step people postpone. Online renewal removes most of the friction: no scheduling, about an hour of self-paced work, and a new certificate the moment you pass.
Step by step
First, check the requirement. If your certification is job-required, confirm your employer accepts a fully-online renewal. If your card is AHA BLS or California EMSA childcare, stop here: those renew with a hands-on class, the same way they were earned.
Second, enroll in the online CPR renewal course ($19.95). Renewal runs the full current curriculum rather than an abbreviated review, because guidelines change between cycles and a real renewal should catch you up.
Third, complete the modules at your pace, on any device. Most renewing students move quickly through familiar material.
Fourth, pass the short final quiz and download your new certificate immediately. It is valid for two years from the new completion date and your employer can verify it.
Expired long ago? Also fine
There is no penalty window for lapsed certificates. Whether yours expired last month or five years ago, the path is the same course and the same price, ending in a current two-year certificate.
Set yourself up for the next cycle
Two suggestions from 25+ years of teaching: put the expiration date in your calendar with a reminder a month early, and consider upgrading to the CPR and first aid combo at renewal time if your role touches kids or you simply want broader coverage. The combo renews both skills in one sitting.
Frequently asked questions
How often does CPR certification need to be renewed?
Every two years. That applies across major providers; after two years the certificate expires and you retake a certification course.
Can I renew my CPR certification online if I originally certified in person?
Yes, if your current role accepts a fully-online certificate. Where you certified last time does not restrict where you renew. If your job requires a hands-on card (BLS, EMSA), renew in person instead.
What if my certification already expired?
Nothing changes. There is no grace-period penalty; you take the current course and receive a new two-year certificate from your completion date.
Is renewal cheaper or shorter than the original course?
With us it is the same course at the same price ($19.95), covering the full current guidelines. Most renewing students finish faster because the material is familiar.
